Holy wow
Hey all,
Tour ain’t over yet but I feel compelled to discuss a couple things, now that Fest is over and the hotel lobby is quiet. It’s just me and the staff and Shania Twain on the overhead radio.
Holy shit, has this all been a surprise.
Yesterday we loaded in, soundchecked, and started our set at 3:50, and it felt really good. We’d been preparing for this tour to Gainesville for months, and we’d made it. No van fires, only 2 cancelled shows, and so much fun along the way. We made it to Fest, and people and good friends were there, and I couldn’t ask for more. We’d barely started when I saw there were people crowded at the window, singing along with us. I was so happy, I felt right where I needed to be (thank you so much, window people). I knew I was going to remember this show, especially after we finished…
The room was about half-full when we finished, and I was down with that. It was our very first time playing the Fest, and we played first, and I was happy that we did that well early in the day. Then a friend told me there was a line of people going around the block, who were trying to see us play..
HOLY SHIT.
While I feel very bad for the folks that should have been able to get in, as the room wasn’t filled, I also feel so fucking moved that people cared that much to see us. Seriously, HOLY SHIT. We’ve had amazing surprises all along this tour, for some of which we really were not prepared (running out of records in LA, for example…), but this is the craziest one I’ve ever experienced.
We tried to make it up to the people who couldn’t see our set, by playing a second show later at Spannk. It was during some very popular bands, I figured a handful of people would come to the second set. We played to a nearly-filled room, and again I was surprised in the best way possible. We played two older songs, and had a blast. I’d also only eaten breakfast around 9:30 am, and it was now 8 pm, and I felt insane. It’s cool though, I just ended up being the weirdo crunching on baby carrots during Fake Problems’ set.
Later I nearly fell asleep on a pile of Joyce Manor shirts, and ate two slices of pizza in the span of 45 seconds. Perfect day.
Thank you so much guys. Thank you Fest 11. We will never forget our first time.
Now, onto Atlanta.
LOVE,
Frances
